Alessandra Maisto

Mythology, astronomy and spirituality come together in the works of Alessandra Maisto, Italian artist, born in 1990 in Naples where she attended the Academy of Fine Arts, earning a degree in visual arts. Precisely on the Neapolitan scene, the artist develops her vision of her art by coming into contact with the masters of the Neapolitan informal and arriving at her own style and her own working dynamics. Her artistic work opens up to the spiritual plane, she opens a door raising spirit and body beyond the small and corrupt world that surrounds the human being. A sort of elevation that carries with it the intrinsic material dimension of man, with his own fears and insecurities, and at the same time makes him an integral part of nature itself, a slight but also traumatic return to the origin. This whole process is elaborated as a sort of rite, the act of ceremonial, a function rooted in all of southern Italy. In this way the artist recalls her roots, but making a use of her own, inserting his installations in a sort of contemporary reliquary, thus creating his own cult. The energy and the Manichean relationship between light and darkness, her experimenting nature, leads her to combine different materials, passing from painting to installation. On the two-dimensional level, the painting merges with the raw fabric, sometimes submerged by melted wax, creating unrepeatable effects. Loose lands, oil colors and gold become symbols. The symbolism used is that of studies on the sacred, but also that of mythology and popular beliefs. The golden almond that takes the shape of an eye has now become the seal of his works, in different ways, sometimes filling the surrounding space, as in some canvases or even in a Land Art installation present in the Phlegraean territory, at other times becoming so small that blend into the work, pushing the viewer in search of that distinctive sign. The fabric used as a pictorial support comes out of the frame to become a member of the installation, bringing to mind the simplicity and that sense of mystery typical of the rites of the past. The cloth becomes the shroud of Christ and intersects with the one used for making bread, and again becomes an eulogy to childbirth, and then to birth, until it becomes a relic again. In her atelier in Naples, Alessandra Maisto works actively making her art her only work. You exhibit in Trapani with a solo show, then Rome, Florence, Milan and of course Naples.
