Andrea Cusumano

Andrea Cusumano [Palermo, 1973] is an artist, performer and academic of Italian and British nationality. He has been an associate professor at Central Saint Martins, Goldsmiths College and Rose Bruford College in London and has collaborated with important higher education institutions, from the Central School of Speech and Drama, the University of Washington and the Open University. He has presented his works in prestigious international festivals and venues: Angel Orensanz Center (New York), Demarco Archive al Fringe (Edinburgh), Bharat Rang Mahotsav and India International Center (New Delhi), Cricoteka (Krakow), MAK (Vienna) , MADRE (Naples), Orestiadi (Gibellina-TP). PQ Quadriennial (Prague). Since 1997 he has been musical director of the Orgien Mysterien Theater, for which he conducted all the first ever performances of Hermann Nitsch. He is the creator and artistic director of BAM Biennale Arcipelago Mediterraneo; artistic curator of the International Literature Festival of Rome for the 2020 and 2021 editions. Between September 2014 and February 2019 he was councilor for culture of the city of Palermo and in this position he also promoted and managed Manifesta 12 - The Planetary Garden and Palermo Italian Capital della Cultura 2018. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Manifesta 14 Pristina Foundation and of the Orestiadi Foundation, he was one of the founders of the ESI-European Scenography Initiative and recently of the Laboratory of the Future on input from the Italian critic and curator Fabio Cavallucci.
