Enzo Cacciola
Enzo Cacciola was born in Arenzano (GE) in 1945. His first personal exhibition was held in 1971 at the La Bertesca gallery in Genoa, focusing on the dynamics of plane-form-color relationships. In 1973 he began to work on new alternative materials to oil on canvas and created the first material works focusing on surface processing. In 1975 he participated in the "Analitishche malerey" exhibition invited by Klaus Honnef, curator with Catherine Millet of the important exhibition on analytical painting, with paintings elaborated with concrete such as to reveal the numerous problematic aspects relating to the space of analysis aroused by the materiality of those works . In 1977 Cacciola was invited and participated in Documenta 6 in Kassel and in 1979 he traveled to the USA and Mexico, exhibiting in Washington, Panama City and Mexico City. In 1985, after an interlude dedicated to figurative-conceptual experiences, the artist returned to carry out research on the subject he deals with with sign interventions on the surface of his works. Around the mid-90s he devoted himself to a conceptual matrix painting in which he undertakes to solve numerous abstract-geometric experiences relating to the roughness of surfaces and the relationships between matter and geometry. After the historic exhibition on "Analytical Painting" (1975), there are numerous exhibitions dedicated to the situation of aniconic and analytical painting promoted in Italy from 2006 to the present day, to which Cacciola is always invited and participates. In 2017 he started an experience with a new type of white concrete "Nanodur chromatarm" which he matured during a stay in Cuba and subsequently exhibited at Ultraspazio in the former Buzzi building in Turin in an exhibition curated by Marco Meneguzzo.
