Nado Canuti

Nado Canuti was born in Bettolle di Siena on 6 August 1929. Self-taught, he lives and works in Milan. In 1950, encouraged by friends, including Mino Maccari, Fortunato Bellonzi and Pier Carlo Santini, he made his debut as a painter; since 1966 he has devoted himself mainly to sculpture, graphics and goldsmith art. In the 1960s, in particular with the bas-reliefs of the Fazzi Chapel in Piombino, his plastic language is defined in a stylization of expressionist ancestry.
His sculpture then advances more and more towards abstract synthesis, seeking the rigor of the line, the compact, smooth and geometric essentiality of the forms. The techniques used are cast, chiseled and smooth concrete; marble, alpacca, silver and above all bronze. The favorite subjects can be defined as forms assembled by interlocking, decomposable and mutable in a germinating mechanics of magical stylization, in a "metamorphism that will become the characteristic feature of his Sculpture by now on the way to the definition of a personal and unmistakable stylistic morphology ... "(Giorgio of Genoa). Present at the IX and X Quadriennale d'Arte in Rome with a personal room, from 1959 to today he has held over 70 personal and 150 group exhibitions in Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Northern Europe, Arab countries, United States, Latin countries. Americans, Mexico, Japan, Kenya. Significant, in 2001, the great exhibition at Palazzo Reale in Milan and, in 2002, the one at the Tadini Museum in Lovere.
His works appear in Italian and foreign museums, in numerous public and private collections and in churches and sanctuaries. He has created monumental works of great artistic and cultural significance in Italy and abroad. Degree theses have been assigned on his work and monographs of considerable critical interest have been published. Some of the most prestigious contemporary critics and scholars have been interested in his work, such as Luciano Caramel, Giorgio Di Genova, Gillo Dorfles, Sebastiano Grasso, Elena Pontiggia, Arturo Schwartz, Tommaso Trini and others. He has created Monuments to the Resistance and to the Fallen in various Italian cities.
