Paolo Ventura

Paolo Ventura was born in Milan in 1968. In the early 90s he attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts which he left almost immediately to take an interest in photography. For the next ten years, he is a fashion, design and landscape photographer but decides to abandon commercial photography and move to New York. In a tiny studio in Brooklyn, almost a closet begins to reconstruct dioramas relating to the Second World War in Italy, based on the memories and stories told by his maternal grandmother. In 2006 he publishes "War Souvenir", the work is a huge success which is followed by numerous exhibitions all over the world. In the following years he continued his artistic research creating many other works including "Winter Stories", "The Automaton", "Short Stories" and "Quarantine Diary". His work was also an inspiration for the creation of sets and costumes for various works of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Teatro Regio in Turin. His works are part of important public and private institutions including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the MAXXI in Rome and the Maison Européen de la Photographie in Paris.
