Silvio Porzionato

Silvio Portzionato: Born in Moncalieri (TO) in 1971. After graduating from artistic high school, for a decade he worked in design for an important Turin company. However, recalled - as he himself said - by the "silence of the land of Roero" (CN), he decides to change his life and start over, seeking a more intimate and close contact with nature and with Art. Portzionato immediately proved to be a revelation in the national artistic panorama: after only one year of activity he was selected for the Mondadori Art Award, in 2010 he won the critics' prize at Saluzzo Arte and then created a permanent work for the Urban Art Museum of Turin. In 2011 he was selected for the 54th Venice Biennale, exhibiting both in the Piedmont Regional Pavilion and in the Italian Pavilion in Turin. In 2013 he created 3 large installations entitled Temporal Code for the MACS (Museum of Contemporary Art of Sicily) in Catania. For the occasion, the artist creates 112 portraits of people's faces, in narration and mimesis of the passing of time through the changing of the individual's facial features. A visual path in which the viewer is pushed to reflect, as in front of a large open mirror on his past and his future, in an alienating continuum from childhood to old age. It is therefore in 2016, after the first American group exhibitions and experiences, that with the solo exhibition It’s Life at the Artspace8 Gallery he bursts overseas on the figurative scene of the city of Chicago (USA). Since then, his works have traveled the world and found space in the most influential galleries, from Hong Kong, to London, Paris, Bogotá, New York, Miami, Chicago, and Istanbul. He has taken part in some of the most prestigious trade shows in the United States - in particular the vibrant Art Miami circuit - as well as the most important events in the United Kingdom, Korea, Colombia, Turkey and Peru. Currently, Silvio Portzionato lives and works in Pancalieri, in the province of Turin.
