The exhibition by Ariel Schlesinger, "Mierda y mariposas", will open at Galleria Massimo Minini on Saturday, September 21, from 5 PM to 9 PM.
The works of Ariel Schlesinger (born in Jerusalem in 1980, living in New York) combine humor with an imminent threat of destruction or danger. Everyday objects or images present unexpected characteristics, prompting us to reflect on our surroundings in a way that differs from the ordinary.
The exhibition will be open to visitors until November 6.
We started with a flame
Something small and ephemeral hides surrounded by tons of matter. Study, craftsmanship and ingenuity merge to construct something monumental, epic. Variations on destruction and abandonment looked upon with a positive eye and turned into construction and creation. Reflections on everyday beauty, on the poetry that we fail to see, on our wavering attention. Born from the unexpected thoughts and details that bring us change day after day, we started with a flame is Ariel Schlesinger's second solo exhibition hosted by Galleria Massimo Minini. Four years on from the first show, Ariel presents a threefold project that brings together his ongoing research on how to turn negative events into positive ones, his ability to see the creative potential in ordinary things and an unprecedented willingness to tap into the world of sculpture without ever losing sight of the extraordinary effect of surprise.

ARIEL SCHLESINGER b. 1980 in Jerusalem, lives and works in New York, NY, USA Ariel Schlesinger was born in 1980 in Jerusalem and studied at the Bezalel Academy for Art and Design in Jerusalem from 1999 to 2003. Ariel Schlesinger turns daily products of consumption into rare and surreal objects. By "transformation" and "damage" of domestic accessories, Schlesinger creates a world of poetical imagery. He combines household objects and simple technology in order to create absurd acts. Schlesinger makes works of exquisite detail and subtlety as sculptures and installations. Ordinary objects or situations are altered by the addition of an unexpected material or circumstance, creating small ruptures in the fabric of our everyday reality. Alternating between the objects functions such as in the bicycle work where the wheels of a bicycle are filled with butane gas, which is slowly released as a flame from the wheel's air intake. Two pieces of white paper rotate against each other on a table without ever collapsing in an eternal mechanical dance. Huge Oriental carpets are rolled up and burnt over a fire for many hours, and then unfurled in the gallery as an eerily mesmerizing 'painting' or process work. Ariel's works suggest many contexts and situations including the tensions of his native region, but never dwell on this alone.
