From October 18th to December 1st, Fondazione Bisazza is pleased to present the photographic exhibition curated by Filippo Maggia, "Chronostasis", a collection of photographs by Axel Hütte, one of the most interesting contemporary German photographers, of the so-called Düsseldorf School.
The exhibition is presented with the patronage of the Goethe-Institut Mailand.
Displayed in Italy for the first time, the seventeen photos pay tribute to the beauty of certain archaeological sites in Asia Minor - Aphrodisias, Sagalassos, Ephesus and Ierapolis - through a reasoned and at the same time visionary documentation, which aims not only to depict the historical heritage but also to relate the spirit of the place, offering a unique and engaging experience.
The scenic views of the monuments and the evanescent details of the decorative motifs of the interiors of the ceremonial halls and private homes invite the observers into active contemplation, which leads them to lose themselves in the fantasies of their imagination, in the silence permeating every image, in a repeated and continuous passage between reality and illusion.
In Axel Hütte's photography, light is a distinctive sign of his poetry, along with a chromatic emphasis, achieved by altering the true intensity of the colors. This combination is used by the artist to give an almost abstract, mysterious, and contemporary character to all his works.
The photographs are presented in large sizes and divided into two categories, based on the different type of print: ditone print and glass print.
A brochure with introductory text to the exhibition and an interview with the artist will be available.
"There are places that I still remember decades later. The archaeological sites in Asia Minor were a unique, unforgettable experience. Thanks to numerous special permits, I was able to take pictures in Aphrodisias, Sagalassos, Ephesus and Hierapolis, among others, early in the morning and late at night, accompanied only by my team. Years ago, I saw Candida Höfer's photographs in a surprising presentation at the Fondazione Bisazza. Now, I am delighted to have been invited to a solo exhibition showcasing the photographs of former metropolises of the Roman Empire, which are now ruined cities or archaeological sites." by Axel Hütte
"Accepting the invitation of the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection in Istanbul to photograph the archaeological sites of Turkey, Axel Hütte has once again confirmed his vocation to address themes and places that, gathered together over his long artistic career, show a natural predisposition to interpret architecture in a clear and romantic style, combining reason and feeling." by Filippo Maggia.
The Architectural Photography section of the Bisazza Foundation is enriched by the recent acquisition of six photographs - Wassertürme - by the couple Bernd and Hilla Becher, founders of the Düsseldorf School, to which Axel Hütte belongs as well as Candida Höfer, who was the protagonist of an exhibition inaugurated in 2017 at the Foundation.
