ITSLIQUID Group, in collaboration with ACIT Venice - Italian-German Cultural Association, is pleased to announce the opening of BODYSPACES, first appointment of CANVAS ART FAIR 2024, which will take place in Venice, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello from September 13 to September 27, 2024, during the 60th Venice Biennale of Art.
CANVAS is an International Art Fair that will present collective and solo projects by leading and emerging international artists. The 2024 edition will represent a forum for the direct exchange of ideas and contacts between collectors, artists, photographers, designers and art professionals. The art fair features paintings, sculptures, photography, installations, video art and live performance.
The word "canvas" was used for the first time in Italy in the 14th century and it has become the most common support medium for oil painting, replacing wooden panels. Over the centuries, the canvas' meaning has changed, starting from paintings, through photographic and cinematographic film, exploring the human body, to the digital world. Canvas is the creatives' common ground, on which they can express themselves. We invite all the artists to share their personal artistic research through any kind of media, from painting to sculptures and installation, from photography to video art and live performance.
BODYSPACES is about the perception of our body, the first step for the appropriation of our identity. The bodies are the spaces for human experimentation, for the achievement of humanity and its overtaking. The contemporary bodies are composed of corporal and virtual elements influenced by physical and psychical actions. The artistic work on the body's hybridization will create a new concept of humanity starting any kind of possible life in a contemporary multicultural society. We invite artists to express, through their artistic research, the relationship between the body and human life, celebrating the new identities in contemporary times.
In this dynamic context, the artists involved bring diverse perspectives and approaches to the theme; among them, Parya Shabdar's evocative imagery reflects the struggle and strength inherent in the human condition, resonating with the exploration of identity and transformation. Her works channel her tumultuous upbringing during the Iranian Revolution: raised amidst cultural repression, Parya found solace and resistance in art, using her talent to navigate the oppressive environment that sought to stifle creativity, blending beauty with a deep, underlying commentary on liberty, identity, and the human spirit.
Emphasizing the essence of human experience through light and shadow, the Swiss photographer Janih Ch. Luthi specializes in black-and-white photography, a medium through which he captures the raw essence of his subjects with striking clarity. By stripping away color, Janih invites viewers to explore the interplay of light and texture, creating images that bring out timelessness and emotional depth.
Josiane Debatisse, from Belgium, takes her abstract compositions to the forefront with a unique blend of watercolor and mixed media. Her work, incorporating elements such as old musical scores and plexiglass, captures the dynamic movement of the human body, aligning with the exhibition's theme of exploring the spaces our bodies occupy and create. By employing digital sculpting and traditional painting, the American artist Fletcher Graham challenges observers to consider how technology influences our identity and the concept of self in an increasingly dispersed digital world, questioning what we gain and lose in the process.
Through a diverse array of artistic expressions, BODYSPACES invites the public to engage with the explorations of human identities and bodily experience, celebrating the multidimensional nature of contemporary life: in this regard, Agata Bernhacoun offers a profound study of humanity through her lens. Her documentary-style portraits uncover the subtle depths of everyday life, capturing the nuanced connection between people and their environments, highlighting how our personal and collective experiences shape our sense of identity. Similarly, Marketa Novak Leupoldová and her camera explore the connection between man and nature, employing historical eclecticism to enrich her work. In her series "Dream," Marketa delves into how our dreams and beliefs shape our reality, reflecting on the profound impact of our inner visions; each shot is a statement of how personal and collective expectations can weave into the fabric of life.... read the rest of the article»
Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello provides an inspiring setting for artists from around the world to connect, collaborate, and engage in meaningful exchanges, welcoming talents from diverse backgrounds such as the French artist Emilie Nguyen, presenting intimate and elegant portraits that reveal the essence of her subjects. Her journey from a solitary teenager to a full-time artist is reflected in her photography, which bridges personal expression and broader themes of identity, underlining the exhibition's focus on how photography can capture and reflect our human experiences. Seeking to capture the intangible essence of existence, Mareko Nakada aims to illustrate elements that are invisible to the eye yet fundamental to what makes a person or an object unique: his work evokes a profound sense of presence and connection, conveying the quiet exchange of warmth and feeling that transcends physical touch or sight.
The photographer Kate Vasileva captures moments of stillness and reflection. Her series "Silence" delves into the contrasts between time, form, and texture, inviting viewers to pause and find unity in the fleeting, tranquil moments that connect humanity to nature; through her lens, Kate emphasizes the importance of silence and introspection in understanding the deeper truths of our existence: similarly, Valia Abou Alfadel from Syria channels her emotions into vibrant, emotionally charged paintings. Her work is a dynamic dialogue between the artist and the canvas, where colors and brushstrokes become a language of the soul, focusing on the belief that love and emotion are central to human identity, much like Kate's focus on the quiet, reflective moments that define our connections with the world around us.
The exhibition will be further enriched by a curated selection of video artists, whose works explore the intersection of digital media and physical experience, offering viewers an immersive journey into the evolving dialogue between body and space.
