Federico Luger. A I - Avatar or Insect?
Federico Luger, 2024, olio su tela, 140 x 190 cm

Galleria Allegra Ravizza is pleased to present "A I - Avatar or Insect?," the solo exhibition of Italian-Venezuelan artist Federico Luger that will open Wednesday, November 20, starting at 5 p.m. in the space at 8, Via Gorani in Milan.

Spread over two levels, the exhibition aims to bring attention to two of Luger's most investigated themes in recent years: Avatar and Insect.

The former is an Alter-Ego that is born and developed in the age of information technology. Characters, presented with human likenesses, become absolute protagonists: object of attention and privileged point of observation in the world of the video game. Through them, the modern individual exists in the game, in this boundless virtual geography that becomes its theater of action. Luger twists the dynamics, eliminates the avatar and the player, proposing empty landscapes, desolate moors rendered in vivid, bright colors.

The second, on the other hand, a small and common animal, moves, barely perceptible, in a real geography. Blending into nature, it clashes with man, who of nature itself has wanted to be its master. The insect is ignored and pushed away, confronted and even feared by man. Provocatively then, the insect becomes the main subject in Luger's canvases, where - black and in sharp contrast to the surrounding green - it takes on colossal dimensions.

Federico Luger was born in Milan in 1979, he lives and works in Milan and Maloja, and studied drawing and painting at the Armando Reveron Academy in Caracas and the Brera Academy in Milan.... read the rest of the article»

Luger's art often challenges the traditional boundaries between reality and illusion, paying particular attention to the relationship between space, identity and perception. His artistic interest is not limited to the work itself, but also extends to the context in which the work lives and is enjoyed, the thought that generated it, and the studio in which it was produced. He experiments with the use of different media over the years, although he prefers the traditional one of painting, to which he also works alongside curating projects and exhibitions such as The Immigrants, Venice 2013; Advertising the Paradise, A Pick Gallery, Turin 2020; Net Jumps, Galleria Allegra Ravizza, Lugano 2021.

Federico Luger's canvases will remain on display in our Milan venue and viewable by appointment until January 24, 2025 (art@allegraravizza.com).
