Primo Marella Gallery Milan is pleased to announce the opening of Jigger Cruz's solo exhibition, To The Walls from the Wound of Oddities, which will be held on Thursday, July 18 starting from 6.30 PM in Via Valtellina 31, Milan. The artist will be attending the event.

Cruz's art is intriguing for its unique technique that transforms oil paint into a sort of modern bas-relief. His works represent a renaissance of Filipino art, transcending European standards to create a new and authentic visual language.
Cruz's early works were characterized by representations inspired by figurative and landscape painting, often covered and transformed into abstract compositions through the addition of oil elements. The baroque frames, specifically sought out by the artist, were worked to appear destroyed, reflecting a process of deconstruction and rebirth of Filipino art.
However, in his current works, the reference to figurative painting is no longer present. These representations have been replaced by a totalizing presence of abstract elements, and the baroque frames have been temporarily removed. This evolution has allowed Cruz to focus exclusively on creating abstract compositions that fully express his artistic vision.
Cruz has developed a technique that adds thickness and volume to his compositions, creating a three-dimensional effect reminiscent of bas-relief. This transformation allows the abstract elements to emerge from the canvas, forming shadows and depths that enrich the work with an additional dimension. His art is not only form but also concrete substance that continuously evolves, affirming his unique artistic identity. The layering of figures and elements meticulously formed with oil paint requires an elaborate procedure, with long drying times that stabilize the color and give the works a unique texture.
Primo Marella Gallery Milan is pleased to invite the public to attend this event, in order to celebrate the last opening of the exhibition season before the summer break.

Jigger Cruz, born in 1984 in Manila, Philippines, studied Fine Arts at Far Eastern University and Design at De La Salle-College of St. Benilde in the Philippines.
The artist has been listed in international auction houses around the world, and has exhibited in both solo and group shows locally and internationally, from the Philippines to Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Austria, and the United States. His work can be found in multiple public collections, including The Dikeou Collection, Denver, CO, USA; Guggenheim Museum, NY, USA; Saatchi Collection, London, UK; and Zabludowicz Collection, London, UK.
