Until March 1st, the Milan venue of Cadogan Gallery presents the exhibition BLINDS by German artist Kim Bartelt, the 2025 first appointment of Cadogan SOLO exhibition programme, aimed to explore the work of a single artist at a time in the space in Via Bramante 5.
After his solo exhibition Break Easy at Cadogan Gallery in 2023, Bartelt is back with an exhibition that brings together a corpus of minimal and geometric works that narrate the main themes of her research: the transition to three-dimensionality, layering on canvas and the relationship between the permanent and the transitory in art.
The artist's work originates from the tension between the inherent two-dimensionality of painting and her desire to break through the canvas' surface, creating a shift towards three-dimensionality.
Painting sets for commercials and advertising campaigns, the artist began collecting discarded sheets, pieces of fabric, packaging and incorporating them into her artistic practice; through these materials, glued and stitched onto the canvas, she cuts the pictorial field into squares and rectangles, creating an illusion of movement. By bringing the canvas to three-dimensionality, Bartelt delineates an inner landscape filled with figures that radiate a gentle, subtle light.
Kim Bartelt lives and works in Berlin and has been represented by Cadogan Gallery since 2020. Her works have been shown in exhibitions of international relevance, notably in Berlin, London, Milan and Mexico.
