From 16 November 2024 to 12 January 2025 the piano nobile of the Museo Civico di Bassano del Grappa will host one of the prominent figures in the most refined painting research of recent years, Laura Omacini.
The Laura Omacini. Barricades exhibition presents a cycle of medium-format paintings and a nucleus of drawings on paper, and was conceived with the specific nature of the museum collections in mind, which can count on important reserves of graphic studies.
Far from being secondary production, the work on paper is capable of conveying poetic content through a particular balance of power and delicacy: in Omacini's case the link between these two values takes on a rather relevant meaning beyond the language with which it is expressed.
The overlaying of signs, materials and elements, the blurring of the substance into almost imperceptible veiling and atmospheres typifies the whole universe of her images.
Her work recounts the space and the setting through interior and introspective looks: the wealth of details that make up her surfaces though also reinstate the sense of a global reality marked by a powerful and profound instability. The scaffolding that embraces buildings, the architectural skeletons and the solitary, silent places that inhabit pictures and drawings are a way of expressing, in the impalpable delicacy of her language, the alienating fragility of this time. So it is no coincidence that the drawings made especially for the exhibition should bear the title Portrait: indeed, they are genuine social portraits, in which architecture is given the task of recounting man, and to the atmospheres of emphasizing the confusion and underlining the need for care that these complex seasons make ever more evident.
"Barricades" stems from the partnership launched in 2023 between the Musei Civici of Bassano del Grappa and Art Verona, that through the Premio ArteMuseo assists the institutional pathway of artists selected by the museums taking part in the project.
