Laurence Leenaert. Under Nine Moons

From September 24 to October 19 2024, Cadogan Gallery presents "Under Nine Moons", the first exhibition of Belgian artist Laurence Leenaert, who will present a series of new works at the gallery's Milan venue.

The works on show, characterised by a greater minimalism and a reduction of compositional elements, painted with clay and natural pigments and left to dry in the Moroccan sun, represent a novelty in the artist's production. Combining colours, materials and forms, the artist, as if in a mirage, captures the desert landscape of Marrakech, a place of peace and harmony far from the cities, where palm trees, pink walls, layered architecture and warm light become almost tactile elements within the works.

Having moved to Morocco in 2015, Leenaert draws visual, material and cultural inspirations from the context to create works in which her own experience also finds space. Finding freedom in the city's sense of timelessness, and in the interchangeability of elements, the artist works fluidly and spontaneously.
