Liber, contemporary art exhibition curated by the art critic Antonella Nigro, inaugurated on November 20, 2021, is hosted at the marvelous Bibliotheca Angelica in Rome, officially opened in 1604, which together with the Ambrosiana in Milan and the Bodleian Library in Oxford boasts of being the first library in Europe for the public.
The exhibition (in which speakers and artists, with skill, care and passion, have investigated, written and illustrated the theme of the book, reading and knowledge), arises from the desire to preserve and disseminate, in the various ramifications of art, the fruit of knowledge, which, transformed into a Book, awakens memories and caresses possible and impossible journeys. Illusions, allusions, interpreted by the creativity of eighty-five artists, national and international, who in an alternative way have dealt with, on the line of contemporaneity, all the facets pertinent to the themes of the book, from paper to reading, from readers to female readers, up to representation of fictional and poetic figures, which linger in their dear memories.
The exhibition, divided into four sections, Charta, Ut pictura poёsis, Caudex and But-Eut, is enriched by essays by twelve speakers from various universities and museums in Italy, collected from a bilingual catalog (Italian / English), of over 500 pages, the central part of which is largely dedicated to exhibiting artists.
This intertwining of emotions, curiosities and concepts, by the critic curator and his team, the art historian Nunzia Giugliano, the linguistic expert Giovanna Della Porta, the editorial consultant Grinora Mellethanne, will be the link between the viewer and the flame of 'free knowledge'.
The exhibition, at the Angelica Gallery, in Piazza Sant’Agostino n. 8, in the heart of Rome, divided into two sessions, November 20-27 and December 4-11, will be available for free, in compliance with the anticovid rules, during the opening hours of the Bibliotheca Angelica.
