Galleria Patricia Armocida is pleased to announce "Doppia uso singola", the first solo exhibition by Lorenzo Urciullo aka Colapesce.

A selection of 200 photographs grouped into three series: D.U.S., acronym of the title, is "a personal chronicle documenting my solitude within space," as the artist states. A cataloging of furniture and objects in the hotel rooms the artist stayed in during his career; the second series, Teresa and Anna, Lorenzo's grandmother and great-aunt, documents the symbiotic relationship between two sisters; Giorni sfiniti, a series about the artist's homeland of Sicily, its paradoxes, and his self-reflective insights.

The photograph formats, 20x20 cm (the same size as typical Sicilian tiles called "cementine") and 10x10 cm, printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag ultra-smooth 305 gsm paper, serve as a summary of visual notes that guide visitors through Colapesce's secret and intimate world.
Spanning over a decade, this iconic selection is drawn from his personal archive of more than 1,800 photographs.

The exhibition was conceived by the gallery owner, Patricia Armocida, who recognized the evocative power of the artist's photographs and their connection to his photographic practice, his imagination, and his songwriting compositions.
Lorenzo is sharing his world with visitors for the first time, and in order to allow for a more efficacious reading of the images, the catalog will include a text by the artist himself.

Biography:

Lorenzo Urciullo, aka Colapesce, is one of the brightest and broadest talents of the new Italian scene.
In 2012 he won the Targa Tenco prize for best debut album with his first album "Un meraviglioso declino", followed by "Egomostro" (2015), and "Infedele" (2017) produced with IOSONOUNCANE and Mario Conte. In 2015 he published the graphic novel "La distanza" in collaboration with Alessandro Baronciani and Bao Publishing. In 2016 his performance dedicated to scoring images by the director Vittorio De Seta, the father of Italian documentary filmmaking, premiered at the Romaeuropa Festival. In 2013, the prestigious British newspaper The Guardian listed him as an example of Italian music to export.... read the rest of the article»

NME defined him as one of the best non-English language pop acts in Europe and Le Monde included "Egomostro" among the best albums of 2015.
On January 29, 2019, the theatrical performance "Stanno tutti male", written by Colapesce in collaboration with Riccardo Goretti and Stefano Cenci, premiered, marking his acting debut. In 2020, he released "I mortali" (42 Records/Numero Uno), an album co-written entirely with Dimartino, which was widely acclaimed by both fans and critics, becoming one of the year's most celebrated albums. The album features singles such as "Luna araba" with Carmen Consoli, "Noia mortale," "Rosa e Olindo," and "Adolescenza nera," a collaboration with MACE, a chart-topping artist and producer.

In March of the following year, the two singer-songwriters participated in the Sanremo Festival in the "Big Artists" section with the song "Musica leggerissima," and on March 19, 2021, a new version of their first album together, "I mortali²" (42 Records/Numero Uno), was released. This double album included 10 new tracks, including the song "Musica leggerissima" which competed at the Sanremo Festival, a cover of "Povera patria" presented at the festival, and a new unreleased track, the title track "I mortali." "Musica leggerissima" quickly became a hit, cementing its place in popular culture and earning 5 Platinum Records.

In July, the two returned with a surprising new song, "Toy boy" (42 Records/Numero Uno), featuring two global icons of Italian culture and entertainment: the queen of Italian music, Ornella Vanoni, and Oscar-nominated director, Luca Guadagnino. The song accompanied them throughout the summer, as they performed live at major Italian festivals, selling out several shows.
In 2022, they teamed up with Fabri Fibra for the first single of the rapper's new album, "Propaganda," which also earned a Platinum Record. On December 2, they released "Cosa da pazzi," a new song written for the soundtrack of the Prime Video Original series "The Bad Guy", starring Luigi Lo Cascio and Claudia Pandolfi.

In 2023, they returned to Sanremo with "Splash," encoring the extraordinary success of "Musica leggerissima" and winning both the Mia Martini Critics Award and the Radio-TV Press Room Award.

During this time, they also debuted as writers, screenwriters, and actors in the movie "La primavera della mia vita", which turned out to be a box office hit. The film's soundtrack, composed with Dimartino, was awarded a Nastro d'argento and a Globo d'oro by foreign press in Italy.
Following the release of the tracks "La luce che sfiora di taglio la spiaggia mise tutti d'accordo," "Ragazzo di destra", and "Sesso e architettura" (which also made it to the top 10 most played songs on Italian radio), "Lux eterna beach" was released in November 2023, followed by a successful and extensive tour in Italian clubs and festivals.

On October 11, 2024, the soundtrack for "Iddu" was released by Dischi Numero Uno, entirely composed by Colapesce (with Federico Nardelli). It won the 2024 Soundtrack Star Award at the Venice Film Festival before also being shortlisted for the David di Donatello awards.
