BLU Spazio delle Arti (via di Torpignattara 142) in Rome inaugurates on Saturday 4th October, 2025 the site-specific installation by Monica Giovinazzi, The Root of the Wind is Water, curated by Barbara Pavan.
The artist shapes the space as a living organism, in which matter becomes memory, intertwining, transformation. From the central, metallic, and regular core, rope roots branch out: dynamic flows that expand, coil, and knot, generating crossings of energy and meaning.
Each knot becomes a point of condensation: it thickens, takes on color, welcomes inserts of silk, linen, and the finest cotton. They are signs of symbiosis, of fertile alliances, of encounters that protect and transform. As in nature, the root becomes a vehicle of nourishment and growth, but also of diversification and renewal: it intertwines, then separates, accumulates and releases, drains and regenerates.
The artistic gesture does not celebrate fixity, but incessant movement. Root as vital force, as a dynamic principle seeking new paths, producing difference and possibility. Root as identity and as openness, as grounding and as tension towards the heights, towards the other.
Dedicated to Emily Dickinson, the work evokes the poetic radicality of living: to root oneself in order to nourish, grow, transform. It is a symbolic landscape in which matter, vibrant and organic, becomes an image of the bond between memory and future, between body and space, between singularity and community.
In The Root of the Wind is Water the roots are not static: they are movement, respiration, passage. They are the very gesture of art, which digs, connects, and continuously generates new forms of life.
A multifaceted artist, Monica Giovinazzi's practice privileges upcycling and includes performance, installations, and participatory art projects. Since 2017 she has exhibited regularly in several European countries, particularly in Austria and Italy. She has collaborated with the Italian Cultural Institute, the Embassy of Italy in Austria, and several universities. As recognition for her artistic work and cultural mediation between Austria and Italy, she was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy. She founded the Cultural Association Raabe UNLA – Unione Nazionale per la Lotta contro l'Analfabetismo (an institution accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education), which since 2000 has carried out educational projects for all ages, in collaboration with schools of all levels, universities, institutions, associations, and organizations. She promotes training workshops and Relational Art projects.
