"Moonkillers sounds like the name of a punk band, but it isn't. Moonkillers is a vision of the world, an approach to art, and to painting."
Antonio Grulli
On Saturday 1 February 2025 Tommaso Calabro opens "Moonkillers" curated by Antonio Grulli in its Venice gallery at Palazzo Donà Brusa in Campo San Polo. Run- ning until 15 March, the exhibition features a selection of paintings, works on paper and graphics by the artists Michele Bubacco (Venice, 1983), CANEMORTO, Emilio Gola (Milan, 1994), Alessandro Miotti (Marostica, 1991) and Flaminia Veronesi (Mi- lan, 1986).
"The artists featured in this exhibition belong to a very precise line, one that is deeply rooted in the art of the past, in that fertile and humid soil of wild painting, fast signs driven by instinct, vibrant colors, youthful spirit, emotions, feelings, pulsating life, provocation, enthusiasm, mockery, and a fierce desire to take their own space in the world. They are all Italian, linked to figuration, and part of the latest generation that, despite working with a plurality of languages, has strongly reclaimed painting. A phenomenon that, at least within our borders, has not been seen with such intensity since the 1980s. It is a new and magical wave asserting itself not only on the national scene.
All of them have drawn inspiration from the great movements of the past, from which not many have the courage to draw, and which in more modern times have taken many names: the Fauves, Die Brücke, Futurism and Dada, the COBRA group, Transavanguardia, Neue Wilde... But they have also taken from the streets, from illustration, comics, the Punk movement, and all those worlds full of life that art often looks at with snobbery."... read the rest of the article»
