Saturday 28 September from 6 p.m. Galleria Nicola Pedana is pleased to host the group exhibition 'Petrichor' with works by Victoria Kosheleva, Matěj Macháček, Kateřina Ondrušková, Andrea Polichetti and Giacomo Serpani, curated by Domenico de Chirico.
Of brackish and earth you have the veins, the breath (1), thus, strong in his ability to capture the nuances of human experience, Cesare Pavese poetised in one of his evocative poems. Ab origine, the symbolic realism that characterised his narrative was aimed at representing reality through symbols and all that is hidden on this side of appearance, taking for granted that «the symbol [...] is a fantastic bond that stretches a plot beneath the discourse» (2).
And so, allegorically speaking, what is that mysterious weave that allows veins to pulsate, blood to flow and breath to blow imperishably? The answer probably lies in that smell of rain that inebriates the dry earth immediately after an unexpected late-summer rainfall, that is, the petricore: from the Greek πέτρᾱ pétrā "boulder, stone" and ἰχώρ ichṓr, "icore, sap understood as blood of the gods".
Thanks to the pervasive force of the wind, its odorous particles spread everywhere in a lepid manner, eclipsing all forms of bare indolence. And so it is that the group exhibition in question stands as a symbol of a desire for a rapprochement with nature, thanks to which we can debunk the torments and upheavals of modernity where, as Henry David Thoreau, the American philosopher and forerunner of environmentalism and non-violence, said, everything has been reduced to commodification, profit and spectacle, here where even the casual flowing of water no longer belongs to us.
And it is on the basis of such precepts that 'Petrichor', proposing itself as a fertile ground particularly prone to reflection, intends to fresco, perfuming it, that shrewd Thoreaunian axiom according to which «the fastest traveller is the one who goes on foot». Thus, at the hands of Victoria Kosheleva, Matěj Macháček, Kateřina Ondrušková, Andrea Polichetti and Giacomo Serpani, an unprecedented locus amoenus of loose and simple values is created, whose Arcadian air smacks of originality, fruitfulness and the most diverse ways of being.
