From November 22, 2024 to January 19, 2025, Triennale Milano is presenting Seçkin Pirim, curated by Tommaso Tovaglieri. The exhibition, in collaboration with the Public Art Office Municipality of Milan, is the Turkish artist's first solo exhibition in Italy.
The works of Seçkin Pirim, often made with resin, paper, aluminium, glass or marble, explore form, colour and the reiteration of formal models. Taking on the challenge of working in diverse media, the artist analyses the relationship between work and space, the dichotomy between nature and culture and the boundaries between art and design. His minimalist sculptures combine computer-generated elements with others made by hand, fuelling a far-ranging dialogue between technology and craftsmanship.
The artist has a deep interest in abstract forms and the use of light, a major contributor to the sense of movement and depth communicated in his work.
The exhibition is spread among the various indoor and outdoor Triennale spaces, which host a selection of Pirim's works, either unpublished or particularly representative.
The Gate of Eye (2024) itinerary begins outside the Palazzo dell'Arte with a huge sculpture made with car paint on polyester and continues inside with Vertical Touch, Seven Days, and other works.
Although it is not possible to categorize Pirim as a direct representative of Optical Art, certain aspects of his work can be associated with principles concerning viewers' spatial perception, especially considering the artist's use of repeated geometric forms, translucent materials and play of light.
Pirim's sculptures are characterized by their technical precision and the treatment of materials exalted into a genetic, organic, architectural form. This quality can be appreciated both in his sculptural paintings, in whose fields the living forces of matter and colour interact, and in the marble block, whose surface is strewn with patterns that form layers and expand, reducing the mass to a single standard form, through which Pirim expresses the essence of his style.
