Mntn Journal presents L'Arte del Movimento - L'estetica degli sport invernali (The Art of Movement – The Aesthetics of Winter Sports), an exhibition open to the public free of charge from January 28 to March 15, 2026. It will be held in two locations: the Manifiesto Blanco gallery in Milan and the Studio Exhibita space in Cortina. The event is supported by Nordica, Felicetti, Dolomiti Superski and Save The Duck. Technical sponsor: Ristorante Sanbrite. We would like to thank Dodi. Design and Allestimenti Benfenati for their support in setting up the Milan and Cortina events.
The exhibition features 22 works by 16 Italian illustrators who have depicted winter sports exclusively for the magazine. These sports include alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, Nordic combined, short track, skeleton, ski jumping, ski mountaineering, snowboarding and speed skating. In addition to these sixteen disciplines, the exhibition also showcases sports practised by disabled athletes, including para alpine skiing, para cross-country skiing, para biathlon, para ice hockey, wheelchair curling, and para alpine snowboard.
The artists who have captured the gestures, movements, silences and challenges of snow and ice champions through their art are: Emiliano Ponzi, Giordano Poloni, Ludovica Basso, Davide Barco, Alessandro La Monica, Luca Grassi, Andrea Tomasino, Erica Lazzeri, Anna Novello, Veronica Pia, Eleonora Goffi, Helga Aversa, Emanuela Carnevale, Gabriele Templorini, Lorenzo Duina and Federico Epis.
The illustrations are set in the depths of winter, when the world is silent, the sky is falling snow and the mountains awaken like sleeping giants. On their pristine slopes, skiers leave delicate traces as they glide down the mountain like brushes dipped in a sea of ice. The snowboarder dances with the slope, gliding like a free thought as they jump, twist and hover between earth and sky for an eternal moment. It's just like Nordic combined: first the jump, a flight that defies the silence; then the ski run, a race against time and oneself. It's the art of balancing daring with patience.
Meanwhile, on the frozen lake, which shines like a silver mirror, skaters trace arabesques with their blades. Further away, amid the shadows and silence, cross-country skiers advance alone, carrying a fire in their hearts that defies the frost. Every step is a promise and every breath is a little prayer rising to the sky. In the same quiet forest, biathlon is about slowness and heartbeats. Skiers glide like light shadows, then suddenly stop — and the world stops with them. Aiming is an act of trust, and the shot resounds like a drum in the snow.
On the steep track, the bobsleigh hurtles downhill in a flurry of metal and courage. The curves feel like cold embraces, but the crew entrusts its fate to gravity, united as one. The bobsleigh has a younger sibling: the luge. A solitary arrow, it carries a lone athlete, either lying on their back or front, down a spiral of ice that whispers promises and dangers.... read the rest of the article»
Curling speaks softly. On the pristine ice, the stone glides slowly, like a deeply considered thought. The brooms dance lightly and the movement feels like an ancient ritual, guiding a dream towards the house with delicacy and precision. In contrast, ice hockey is a combination of fury and music. The blades scratch the ice like claws and the puck slips and returns in an unpredictable way. The athletes cross paths, collide and fly through the air, while the crowd holds its breath to the rhythm of this brilliant battle.
Still set in an ice stadium, short track is a frantic dance of curves and close encounters. The athletes pursue one another like impatient comets, slicing through time and bending the wind in a spiral that lasts only a moment but burns like a living spark. Finally, there is skeleton, the boldest of whispers: a barefaced challenge to the mountain, with the body mere centimetres above the racing ice. It's an agreement of trust with speed; a race in which it feels as though the heart is flying a second ahead of the body.
Winter sports enthusiasts are people who let themselves be guided by winter and embrace its hidden beauty. They offer a way of living in the cold, of listening to its silence and of transforming it into an experience of freedom. They represent an ongoing dialogue between the body and nature, where every movement reflects the connection with the environment. They offer an invitation to lose yourself in the white and find yourself through movement.
