From January 28 to March 15, 2026, Triennale Milano presents White Out. The Future of Winter Sports in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Milano Monza Brianza Lodi. The exhibition is curated by Konstantin Grcic and Marco Sammicheli, Director of the Museo del Design Italiano di Triennale Milano, with exhibition design by Konstantin Grcic Design GmbH. The project is presented as part of the Milano Cortina Cultural Olympiad 2026.
White Out is dedicated to winter sports and to design intelligence in relation to the extreme living conditions of mountain environments, as well as to the future challenges inevitably posed by the climate change currently underway. The exhibition takes its title from the expression White Out, the optical phenomenon that occurs at high altitudes when clouds and white sky merge with the snow-covered landscape, reflecting light and generating conditions of poor visibility in which usual reference points such as distance and direction are no longer accessible.
States Stefano Boeri, President of Triennale Milano: The relationship between design and technology is fundamental for Triennale, an institution that has always dedicated its spaces to creativity, culture and design. We are delighted to open our spaces also to sport on this occasion, in conjunction with the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. The exhibition springs from the creative ingenuity of Konstantin Grcic and is dedicated both to the materials, equipment and sports personalities who have made the history of winter sports and to the future of these disciplines, which have always been closely linked to innovation. It allows us to address sports through a language that is particularly close to Triennale: creativity and design.
The exhibition is hosted in the Design Platform space, which, following the extensive architectural and functional redevelopment of the Palazzo dell'Arte, is located in the large ground-floor area overlooking the garden, previously home to the Triennale café.
White Out displays objects, equipment and infrastructure that enable the practice of winter sports and alpine tourism throughout the year, even in extreme conditions. Significant attention is devoted to technological research, focusing on new materials and production processes that improve performance and safety.
The exhibition itinerary is organised into nine thematic sections: Skins, Dainese, Safety, Infrastructure, Bob track, Ski, Extremes, Futures and Material Index.... read the rest of the article»
Approximately two hundred objects designed between 1938 and 2026 are on display, including skis and snowboards, masks, gloves, boots, safety equipment, medical prosthetics, equipment used by Olympic and Paralympic athletes, furnishings and multimedia productions, extending to the scale of infrastructure and architectural projects designed by major architects and artists such as Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret, Carlo Mollino, Philippe Fragnière, Nicolas Ghesquière, Axel Rezab, Jeanne Immink and Antonio Faullin.
The exhibition is supported by Triennale Milano's institutional partners Deloitte and Fondazione Deloitte, Lavazza Group and Salone del Mobile.Milano, together with media partner Interni.
