Silvano Rubino

Silvano Rubino lives and works between Venice and Milan. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. In his training, the study of Renaissance painting was for a long time a fundamental reference until arriving, subsequently, in the 1980s, to a particular interest in historical expressionist and neo-expressionist culture. From 1972 to 1982 he participated in the collective exhibitions of the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation in Venice.

He made his debut on the international scene in 1975 with a solo exhibition in Brussels. From 1972 to 1993 he dedicated himself to painting, moving from figurative to abstract and in 1984 he began his experience in the theatrical field as a set designer and costume designer.
Between 1989 and 1996 he lives in Brazil where he exhibits in personal and collective exhibitions. In 1993 he worked on a body of works conceived for the exhibition (installation) Projeto Kafka, which he presented at the Solar do Barão museum in Curitiba. The installation approach would later become one of the most significant aspects of his work, determining its essence.
In 1994 he approached video and photography. His photos are stories told through images, first constructed by creating sets in the studio, and in more recent years using 3D design. Today Silvano Rubino's artistic research unfolds through all these different languages, often combined with each other to create continuous and mutual references.
