Galleria Regionale d'Arte contemporanea Luigi Spazzapan

Among the many cultural promotion initiatives put in place by the Cassa di Risparmio di Gorizia Foundation, the acquisition in 1999 and the consequent possibility of using the works of the painter Luigi Spazzapan stands out.

Eighty-seven works were thus brought back to the artist's hometown, some of which were considered to be apex from a qualitative point of view: Arlecchini bianchi (1934, tempera on cardboard), Nebbia sotto i bombardamenti (1942, tempera on cardboard), Portrait of Valeria (1950, tempera on cardboard). The Collection, formerly belonging to the Cassa di Risparmio di Gorizia, is located at the Spazzapan Gallery in Gradisca d'Isonzo - inaugurated on January 15, 1977 - and the Foundation also participates in its management, together with the Municipality of Gradisca and the Province of Gorizia. , to which the works are entrusted on free loan.

The entire corpus made up of inks, tempera, oils and two sculptures offers a global vision of the artist's activity and illustrates his evolutionary path, from the early 1930s to 1957.
There are many references to the culture of expressionism and first and second futurism - particularly evident in the period of his training - and which we find in the course of his artistic production, together with other trends deriving from French painting, from impressionism to Matisse, up to the latest informal abstract figurations. The artist's personality and absolute originality dominate everything. The topicality of his art, always careful to register flows of visual and emotional intensity, has moved between reality and fiction along the entire arc of its manifestation.
