Kunst Merano

Merano Arte is an international meeting point for contemporary forms of expression, a platform in the field of figurative art, photography, architecture, music, literature and new media.
It is located in a historic building in the Porticoes of Merano, protected by cultural heritage and owned by the Cassa di Risparmio di Bolzano, known for this as the "Cassa di Risparmio Building". Much of the association's activity involves the organization of solo and group exhibitions of internationally known creatives, as well as the curation of thematic exhibitions with an intercultural profile. Merano Arte is inscribed with a view to promoting and enhancing the expressive forms of the twentieth century as well as those more related to the creativity of today.

One of the most substantial aspects that characterizes its activity is the idea of promoting and supporting the most deserving local artists through exhibitions and initiatives, making them known to the public by providing a path that allows them to understand their value. The promotion of local artists abroad is substantiated every year through the exchange of artists in residence between the city of Merano and the city of Salzburg. The residence and the exhibition that takes place at the end of the stay are made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Culture Office of the Municipality of Merano. The enhancement of art and the education to an interdisciplinary culture are cultivated by Merano Arte through a wide spectrum of initiatives which, in addition to the exhibition activity in the strict sense, include round tables, conferences, workshops, international exchanges and residencies. artist, concerts and activities with schools. One of the main objectives of the association is to raise the awareness of young people in the field of contemporary art, which is why guided tours for schools and thematic workshops are offered.

Merano Arte is one of the most active South Tyrolean institutions in the field of contemporary architecture. The sensitivity towards issues related to architecture does not end only in exhibition proposals, but is embodied in initiatives and round tables aimed at sensitizing local inhabitants towards topics ranging from the sustainability of new projects, to the rehabilitation of those existing, the value of landscape architecture, the problems concerning urban planning and the debate concerning the evolution of the South Tyrolean architectural tradition in the contemporary.
