The unmissable exhibitions at Palazzo Reale

The major retrospective dedicated to El Greco has been extended until February 25th, alongside the exhibition dedicated to Francisco Goya. There is still time, therefore, not to miss the opportunity to visit both exhibitions in a single visit.

Instead, there are just a few days left to immerse yourself in the world of the great Italian photographer Gabriele Basilico, the protagonist of the exhibition 'Gabriele Basilico. Le mie città,' featuring over 500 works divided between Palazzo Reale and the Triennale. At Palazzo Reale, the exhibition, curated by Giovanna Calvenzi and Filippo Maggia, presents a selection of Basilico's works on major international commissions.

Following Gabriele Basilico's exhibition, starting from February 23rd, another major photographic exhibition will take place, dedicated to Gyula Halász, a Hungarian-born artist known by the pseudonym Brassaï. 'Brassaï. L'occhio di Parigi' will showcase over 200 vintage prints, as well as sculptures, documents, and objects belonging to the photographer, offering an in-depth and unprecedented look at Brassaï's work, with particular emphasis on his famous images of the French capital and his life.

Just one day later, on February 24th, the inauguration of the monographic exhibition dedicated to Giuseppe De Nittis will take place, marking his first time as the protagonist at Palazzo Reale. Curated by Fernando Mazzocca and Paola Zatti, 'De Nittis' will present approximately 90 paintings, including oils and pastels, from major Italian and foreign public and private collections, such as the Musée d'Orsay and the Petit Palais in Paris, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Reims and Dunkirk, the Uffizi in Florence, as well as an extraordinary nucleus of works preserved at the GAM in Milan and a selection from the Pinacoteca in Barletta, dedicated to the Painter, which conserves an exceptional number following the testamentary bequest of the widow Léontine De Nittis.

In March, a major exhibition dedicated to two of the greatest exponents of Impressionism will take place, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the movement's birth, traced back to April 15, 1874. The exhibition season at Palazzo Reale will culminate in September with the prestigious project dedicated to Pablo Picasso, titled "Picasso: The Stranger," curated by Annie Cohen-Solal in collaboration with Sébastien Delot, and realized in collaboration with the Picasso Museum in Paris and the National Museum of Immigration History. Hosted at Palazzo Reale from September 20, 2024, to February 2, 2025, the exhibition offers a reflection on themes of hospitality, immigration, and the relationship with the other, showcasing over 80 works selected to highlight how the condition of being a stranger influenced the artist's identity. Born in 1881 in Malaga, Spain, Picasso settled in Paris in 1904. Despite France becoming his residence and his fame spreading beyond national borders, Picasso never obtained French citizenship, receiving only honorary status in 1948.
